Chester County’s Sustainability Program Announced.The Chester County Planning Commission announces a new planning initiative on sustainability. To begin this program, Chester County has developed a strategy for conserving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. On July 15th, the County Board of Commissioners accepted the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Report.

Electricity procurement initiative saves $5.6 million. Chester County, along with the Chester County Intermediate Unit, all Chester County school districts, Montgomery County and various municipalities, fire and police and non-profit organizations will save an estimated $5.6 M over the next two and a half years through an electricity procurement initiative.

PennDOT studying train station (video). PennDOT launched a three-day interactive community workshop to plan potential improvements to Coatesville's train station. The study is part of an effort to improve 12 targeted stations along the Keystone Corridor from Harrisburg to Philadelphia. Plan the Keystone is a study to identify infrastructure investments for the Keystone stations and their surrounding areas with the goal of enhancing the transit service and strengthening the communities served by the Keystone Line.

Slip ramp approved for turnpike, Route 29. Chester County will get its slip ramp, an all-electronic interchange linking Route 29 in Great Valley with the Pennsylvania Turnpike. There are 130,000 jobs in a seven-mile radius of Route 202," Commissioner Achiele said. "This is the highest priority for the Chester County Planning Commission."

This is a five year plan, which will expire in 2011, and is required by the National Park Service in order to ensure funding for the preservation of historic places.
