Housing Policy Paper Housing policies

The Landscapes2 Draft Housing Policy Paper has been developed with input from various stakeholders and the Landscapes2 Steering Committee, and is now available for review and comment.

The draft housing goal, objectives, and policies have been built around the general themes of smart growth and sustainability. Smart growth is an anti-sprawl development concept characterized by compact, mixed-use, walkable communities which offer a range of housing opportunities and choices. Smart growth, in turn, promotes the preservation of valuable open space and agricultural resources, reduces traffic congestion, minimizes environmental impact, and supports the sustainability of communities. Housing affordability, a critical goal of the smart growth movement, is a major focus of the Landscapes2 housing policy plan.

The Housing Policy Paper will serve as interim guidance for a detailed action plan as well as for housing related planning initiatives to be undertaken in 2008.
